Morocco is safe for solo travel but requires awareness. Women get more attention (verbal, not physical). Men easier but medina scams common.
**Safest cities**
**Chefchaouen** — smallest, calmest medina. Locals used to solo travelers. Ideal for first solo Morocco.
**Essaouira** — coastal, artsy, kite/surf community.
**Marrakesh** — biggest hustle. Fun but exhausting. Stay in riad, avoid medina at night.
**Fes** — more traditional, keep low profile. Ask riad for guide first-day orientation (10 EUR/2h).
**Solo women specific**
• Wear long sleeves + pants in medinas. Doesn't stop stares but reduces intensity.
• Wedding ring finger — many wear fake ring.
• Confident walk, sunglasses, headphones (fake) = less approaches.
• Book riads with women-only floors (Riad L'Orangeraie Marrakesh, Dar Seven Fes).
• Never accept unmarked "help" — kids/men "guiding" want 5 EUR at end.
**Meeting locals**
Couchsurfing hangouts, Marrakesh Nomad List, cafe conversations. Moroccan hospitality real — tea invitation at 3rd meeting normal.
**Budget solo**
Hostel dorm 8-15 EUR, riad private 25-40 EUR. Meals 3-8 EUR local, 10-20 EUR tourist. Train Marrakesh-Fes 20 EUR.
**Emergency**
Police 19, ambulance 15. Embassy contacts save in phone.
